Despite having been Director of The Centre for Organisational Research at Anglia Polytechnic University until 2002, this latest, more private phase in my life seems to be even more varied and challenging.
As you will find in various sections of this web site, I mix academic work with private consultancy and creative writing. Currently, I am Visiting Professor at the University of East Anglia in England and Innsbruck University in Austria.
However, I have scaled down much of my academic work and tend only to supervise doctoral students, now. In this regard I have supervised 25 PhDs, some MPhils and countless MAs. I have written a number of books and many articles and these can be viewed on this page.
As an academic I have always lived on the margins. More interested in innovation than tradition, eclecticism rather than a narrow focus.
I enjoyed developing theory through practice rather than exploring how theory might make sense in practice. I have ranged across many disciplines in applied research; medicine, health, higher education, schooling, social services, banking, breweries, fire services, IT and so on.
I began research as a methodologist – my doctorate was in qualitative methodology – and it has stood me in good stead in all my work, since. As you can see in the Consultancy section, all my work is underpinned by research rigour.
